Going solo this Friday evening? Here are 18 fun things to do alone on Friday night.

In my 20s, the idea of spending a Friday night alone, especially at home, felt like a nightmare.

I always craved company, plans, and the buzz of being out and about. Friday nights were meant for socializing, not solitude, and it was considered a “waste” if I had spent the evening by myself.

But that has all changed after I turned 30.

Friday night became like any other night because it is like any other night (the epiphany lol)

I started to enjoy my own company, and realized that I didn’t need to be part of the crowd to feel fulfilled.

And sometimes, the most meaningful moments come when I was alone, doing my own thing.

So if you’re wondering, “What can I do by myself on a Friday night?”—the answer: A LOT.

8 Fun Things To Do At Home Alone On Friday Night

1. Netflix binge or a solo movie night

Friday nights are one of the best time to catch up or binge on your favourite shows. Pick a show or film you’ve been wanting to see, make your favorite snacks, dim the lights, get comfy and enjoy. What I love about this is that you don’t need to share the remote, and you press the show for a bathroom break anytime you like.

2. Try a new recipe or bake something just for you

Friday evening could be your culinary night. An evening where you’ll get to try new cooking or baking recipes, prepare a meal for yourself and just be creative.

3. Have an at home spa night

Light some candles, run a bath, put on a face mask, and unwind. Add soft music or aromatherapy for an extra relaxing vibe.

4. Read that book you’ve been meaning to start (or finish)

You know the one—it’s been sitting on your shelf for months. Now’s the perfect time to dive in, uninterrupted. Prepare yourself a nice cup of tea or wine, get comfy and just read the night away.

5. Start a journaling session

This is one of my favourite ways to destress after a long week. It’s cheap, effective and so good for the mental health. Here’s what you need to do: grab a notebook or journal and just start writing. You could reflect on your week, set intentions, or free-write whatever comes to mind. It’s incredibly soothing to the nervous system and a great way to reset before the weekend.

6. Have a dance party in your living room

Here’s a great way to end the week: blast your favorite upbeat playlist and dance like no one’s watching—because they’re not.

7. Do a digital detox

Turn off your devices and just be. Read, meditate, sit in silence or go to bed early. It might feel strange at first, but it’s freeing to not have to be away from screens and digitals.

8. Create something

Start a DIY project. This could be drawing, writing, or knitting. Making something with your hands and building it from scratch can be meditative, joyful and rewarding.

10 fun things to do alone on a Friday night (out of the house)

1. Take yourself out to dinner

Dining out doesn’t have to be fancy, but it can, if you want to. Find a spot you love (or have always wanted to try) and enjoy dinner at your own pace. If sitting at the table feels uncomfortable, consider getting a seat at the bar table—it’s easier to strike up conversation with the bar staff or other customers.

2. Watch a movie at the cinema by yourself

I know, the idea of watching a movie in public by yourself is scary, and even embarrassing. But rest assure, no one is watching you, no one even notices you. The only reason you might feel this way is because you’re by yourself, and it’s something you’re not used. If you’re up for the challenge, I highly recommend that you give it a try at least once, and you’ll know what I mean. And if you don’t like it, you can always revert back watching watching it at home.

3. Attend a workshop event

There are plenty of workshop events hosted on Friday nights. From wine and painting to tufting classes, workshops are a great way to meet new friends, connect with your community and discover new hobbies. Check out your local listings, Instagram or Facebook for community events, talks, or creative classes.

4. Visit a late night museum or gallery exhibition

These are so much fun. They’re usually a mixed of local artist and networking event. It’s a great way to get cultural, enjoy local arts and meet new friends.

5. Try a night workout class

No time for gym in the morning, why not join a workout class before you go home from work? This could be hot yoga, boxing, zumba, or pilates. If you’re feeling extra motivated, sign up for a back to back class.

6. Go for a solo happy hour

You might wonder, who goes happy hour by themselves? The answer: plenty. Going to happy hour by yourself is a great way to meet new friends (and get free drinks)—make sure you’re sat at the bar and not the table.

7. Go on a night drive and listen to music

This one is all about vibes. Choose a playlist, roll the windows down, drive around your neighbourhood and enjoy the mood and atmosphere.

8. Do a late-night grocery run and treat yourself to fun snacks

It sounds mundane, but roaming the aisles with no rush and picking out treats just for you can feel oddly satisfying. Plus, you often get extra discounts for late night shopping and end of day bakery goods.

9. Volunteer

If you want some light connection without planning a night out, volunteering is a great low-pressure way to give back and be around others.

10. Enjoy spa and massage

If you feel like splurging yourself, then a spa and massage is a must—you will feel much more rejuvenated and ready for the weekend.

It’s As Good As You Make It

Your time is valuable, and how you choose to spend it is what makes it meaningful.

Whether that’s Friday night, your birthday, or New Year’s Eve, you have the power to turn a boring, dull moment into the time of your life.

So if you’re spending this Friday evening by yourself, remember, the key to making it amazing is YOU.
