Life happens.

No matter how much we plan our week, it likes to throw curve ball and give us surprises.

Our automatic response: Charge and carry on.

By the end of the week, we feel disorganised, depleted, and perhaps a little lost wondering “What happened? Where did my week go?”

Here’s an alternative solution for you : Slooooow down.

Take your time.

Pause.

Reflect.

Look at your week before taking action or making a new decision.

A midweek reflection will not only help you stay on track but it prevents life from getting ahead of you.

What Is A Midweek Check In

A midweek check in is a quick pulse check to see how your week is going.

Whether your week is going good or bad, a midweek check in can help you realign your focus and attention, reprioritise what’s important and keep in you intentional for the rest of the week.

They are mindful moments you give to yourself, to remind you to slow down, stay present and not get carried away by life. It’s also a self-care activity that nurtures your mind, mental and emotional health.

Benefits Of A Midweek Check In

A midweek reflection isn’t as often discussed as compared to a mid-year review. But it offer as much benefits, especially when done regularly. Here are some highlighted benefits of a midweek check-in:

  • Refocus your goals — A midweek check in helps you reassess your priorities and make necessary adjustments to stay on track with your weekly goals and to-do list.
  • Reduce stress — Taking time to reflect midweek can help you identify sources of stress and address them early on before they become overwhelming.
  • Boost productivity — By evaluating your progress, you can identify what’s working and what’s not, helping you to make changes to increase your efficiency and productivity.
  • Improve self-awareness — Regular check-ins encourage self-reflection, allowing you to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
  • Maintain motivation — Reflecting on your accomplishments so far can boost your motivation and keep you energized to finish the week strong.
  • Promote balance — A midweek check in gives you the opportunity to evaluate your work-life balance and prevents you from neglecting important areas of your life.
  • Improve decision-making — By pausing to reflect, you can make more informed decisions rather than reacting impulsively, which might negatively impact the remainder of your week.
  • Encourage flexibility — Midweek reflections allow you to pivot and adapt to unexpected changes so you’re not stuck in a rigid plan that no longer serves you.

How To Do A Midweek Check In

A midweek check-in doesn’t take long and is simple to do.

It’s done in the middle of the week, typically on a Wednesday or whatever day feels midweek to you, either in the morning or at night. Some might choose to do a midweek reflection while they are commuting to work or during lunch.

In a midweek check in, you review your week, your feelings about that week and make necessary adjustments that best support you and your goals. This might involve changing your schedule, delegating your to-do list, going to bed early or making tweaks to your morning routine.

Some people prefer a mental check-in, while others, myself included, find it helpful to write everything down. Whichever approach you prefer, here are 20 reflection questions to guide your midweek check-in.
